On Sunday, Nov. 14, bestselling author and national recovery advocate William C. Moyers will share his personal story of overcoming addiction with the Metro Atlanta community at the Peachtree Road United Methodist Church.

WHAT: Bestselling author and national recovery advocate William C. Moyers will share his personal story of overcoming addiction with the Metro Atlanta community. A former Atlantan and CNN journalist, Moyers struggled with the disease for years and has now been thriving in recovery even longer. He will impart his message of hope for individuals and families affected by substance use disorders, which impact 1 in 3 families nationally and 1 in 7 individuals during their lifetime. Moyers, a vice president at the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation, was a key player in the creation of the Addiction Alliance of Georgia, a recently formed partnership between Hazelden Betty Ford and Emory Healthcare, aiming to advance addiction-related clinical care, education and research.

WHERE: Peachtree Road United Methodist Church is hosting the event as part of its focus on the importance of mental health. The event will be held in the church sanctuary at 3180 Peachtree Rd NE, Atlanta, GA 30305. MORE INFO: Moyers is the guest speaker for the PRUMC’s One Lamb Mental Health Initiative, part of the church’s effort to break the stigma of mental illness and addiction by offering programming and support to its congregation and community at large.

His recently recorded podcast, How Faith Leaders Are Planning to Disrupt the Opioid Epidemic, features Chris Thrasher from the Clinton Foundation and Rabbi Eliyahu Schusterman from Chabad Intown in Atlanta.
