Ethics Board Pursues Complaint Against Boyer
The DeKalb County board voted to continue even though Elaine Boyer is no longer in office.

Former County Commissioner Elaine Boyer, who has pleaded guilty to federal fraud charges, also faces a final hearing with the DeKalb County Board of Ethics for reportedly violating the ethics code.
Boyer’s attorney, Anne Lewis, does not believe the Board of Ethics has any authority over Boyer now that she is no longer in office, WABE reports.
“I don’t think there’s any question that this board does not have any jurisdiction over someone who is no longer listed in the legislation,” Lewis told the radio station.

Boyer resigned Aug. 25 as Commissioner of District 1 in DeKalb County, Patch previously reported. She had served the county since 1992.
Boyer pleaded guilty on Sept. 3 to federal fraud charges tied to submitting fake invoices totaling $78,000 and misusing her county credit card. But the roughly $16,000 she charged for personal expenses has been repaid, Patch reports.

Boyer faces a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison and a $500,000 fine when she is sentenced on Dec. 3, reports WSB TV.
Boyer was not present at the meeting when the Board of Ethics decided to move forward with the complaint, according to WABE. The Ethics Board has also decided to continue with the case against Bob Lundsten, Boyer’s chief of staff, for complaints he misued his county credit card.
