Guns Stolen In Rash Of Gwinnett Car Break-Ins

A total of 26 cars were broken into Wednesday in Duluth. Many of those cars were unlocked, police said.

DULUTH, GA — A total of 26 cars were broken into and handguns and other items were stolen Wednesday in Duluth, according to police.

According to a Duluth Police Department post on neighborhood-based social site Nextdoor, 13 cars were reportedly broken into in the Norman Downes subdivision, nine in Peachtree Walk and four in Carriage Gate.

Two firearms were stolen from vehicles in Norman Downes, police said. According to the post, the majority of the vehicles entered had been left unlocked and others had valuables visible inside.

"The Duluth Police Department strives to reduce crime by being visible and confronting any suspicious persons that might be up to criminal activity," the post said. "However, we require the community to help with reducing crime as well by seeing anyone suspicious and calling that person in to have them investigated."

In the post, police asked for the public's help in preventing such crimes.
