Peachtree Corners Seeks Input on Bridge Plan
Mayor says the pedestrian bridge will increase safety and create "an eye-catching landmark" for the city.

PEACHTREE CORNERS, GA -- Leaders in Peachtree Corners are seeking public input on plans for what's been described as an "iconic" pedestrian bridge that would connect The Forum and the new Town Center.
"We’ve heard from a number of you who really liked the iconic design for our pedestrian bridge – but we’ve also heard from some who thought it didn’t fit well with the community," Mayor Mike Mason wrote in a public letter Tuesday. "We want you to know that we’re listening."
A community meeting has been set for 7 p.m. on March 31 at city hall to discuss design options for the bridge.

Unveiled in January, the bridge would provide a walkway over Peachtree Parkway.
According to a design concept revealed at the time, it will meander over a creek and botanical garden as it crosses Peachtree Parkway and include landscaping, park benches and other features.

But in his letter, Mason made it clear that the images showcased in January aren't set in stone.
"For background, a citizen committee was formed and worked with Councilmembers for a number of months going through the different options and selected the drawing you first saw," he wrote. "But we’re still a long way from a final design."
Mason said the bridge will increase safety for pedestrians and cyclists by providing a safe pathway over a thoroughfare that moves 40,000 vehicles through Peachtree Corners daily.
He said it also will become "an eye-catching landmark" for the city and could even have a positive economic impact.
"We already have great homes and top schools both public and private," Mason wrote. "Connecting the Town Center with The Forum with an iconic bridge will improve our quality of life and help us compete with other cities for businesses as well as residents; otherwise, over time Peachtree Corners will join the list of cities that were once successful, but faded."
No date has been set for construction on the bridge to begin.
