In an exclusive interview with WSB-TV, Longnecker’s husband said the alleged shooter was yelling at the girl before walking upstairs and firing several shots, killing the teens.
Ted Longnecker told the TV station his wife was shot in the arm when she went to see what was happening, and later Betty Mclean was shot in the chest.
“It’s real sad,” Ted Longnecker said, “that one person can take and destroy a whole family.’
Longnecker told Channel 2 that Mclean was unemployed and preferred to “stay around the house and live off his mother.”
Longnecker said Mclean took a shot at him before committing suicide.
The tragedy ended the lives of two young people with bright futures. Serrano was a student at Pinckneyville Middle School, where grief counselors were on hand on Wednesday. Andre McLean was a Norcross High graduate, a former ROTC student, and an expectant father, according to the Gwinnett Daily Post.
Police were unclear about motive in the shootings, which have impacted the family both emotionally and financially. A memorial fund for the family has been set up at Bank of America, WSB reported.
