Pleasant Hill Road To Be Widened

A patch of the busy road will go from four to six lanes after construction begins next year.

DULUTH, GA — A patch of busy Pleasant Hill Road will be widened from four to six lanes next year.

Gwinnett County Commissioners have accepted $1.5 million in state grant funds to widen the road in Duluth. Earlier this year, Gwinnett's Department of Transportation applied for a state grant to help the county pay for the work.

Money from the 2014 and 2017 special-purpose, local option sales tax in Gwinnett County also will be used for the project.

Construction is scheduled to begin next year to add the two additional lanes from Howell Ferry Road to the Chattahoochee River.

"We are grateful for (Georgia Transportation Infrastructure Bank) funds, which also contributed to the diverging diamond interchanges on Pleasant Hill Road and Jimmy Carter Boulevard," said District 1 Commissioner Jace Brooks.
