The case was assigned to a Gwinnett County Police detective and it was determined that the injuries happened while the child was in her father's custody, said police spokeswoman Cpl. Michele Pihera. Hamilton was reportedly at the apartment caring for her on Sept. 9 while the baby's mother went to a laundromat to wash clothes.
Police say Hamilton has not been seen or heard from since last Tuesday and the baby died on Wednesday. Police say an autopsy revealed significant head trauma, leading them to consider the case a homicide.
There are active warrants for Hamilton's arrest on charges of murder, cruelty to children and aggravated battery. He is described as a black male, about 5-foot-6 and weighing about 155 pounds. His last known address was on Roswell Road in Atlanta.
