Police: Man Who Crashed Into Taco Bell May Have Been Suicidal

Yared Woldemariam faces charges of reckless conduct and reckless driving stemming from the June 11 incident near Gwinnett Place Mall.

The driver who struck the front of a Taco Bell near Gwinnett Place Mall recently may have been trying to commit suicide, according to the police report from the June 11 incident.

The Gwinnett Daily Post, citing the incident report, said Yared Woldemariam of Lawrenceville told a paramedic at the scene that he “was trying to commit suicide” when his SUV crashed into the front facade of the restaurant on Pleasant Hill Road.

The newspaper reported Woldemariam also allegedly drove his Toyota 4 Runner into a car on Pleasant Hill Road, struck two business signs and then another car as his vehicle was flipping off the road. His vehicle ended up at the Taco Bell entrance.

The accident happened around 9:30 a.m. June 11 on Pleasant Hill Road near Satellite Boulevard in Duluth, according to a fire department press release. Woldemariam was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Woldemariam, a Lawrenceville resident according to jail records, has been charged with failure to yield, reckless driving and reckless conduct.

He was still in the county jail as of Friday afternoon on a total bond of $11,496.
