Suspect Named in 'Good Samaritan' Shooting

Police say Deshawn Poole, 24, shot Thomas Rushworth in the head when Rushworth tried to break up a fight outside a Peachtree Corners bar.

PEACHTREE CORNERS, GA -- Police have named a suspect in the shooting of a man who tried to break up a fight outside a Peachtree Corners bar on Saturday.

Gwinnett County Police Department officials say it was Deshawn Poole, 24, who shot Thomas Rushworth in the head outside the Tavern at Medlock.

According to police, Rushworth, 45, of Duluth, stepped in to try to break up an argument between two couples in the parking lot of the tavern, located at 3230 Medlock Bridge Road.

He remained in critical condition at a local hospital on Friday.

Officers were called to the scene shortly before 1 a.m. Witnesses told them that two couples were having a heated argument in the parking lot.

Poole's whereabouts were unknown Friday afternoon. He is wanted on charges of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Police have identified the other people involved in the argument as Roland Hines, 23, Germikia Williams, 22, and Destiny Lopez, 21.

Hines and Lopez are wanted on charges they violated the Georgia controlled substances act and Williams is wanted on a failure-to-appear charge, police said.
