Two Qualify For Vacant Peachtree Corners Council Seat

PEACHTREE CORNERS, GA -- Two candidates have qualified to compete for a vacant Peachtree Corners city council seat.
The Post 2 seat was left vacant when Councilman Jay Lowe chose to run for the Georgia House of Representatives.
The candidates in the nonpartisan race are Eric Christ, 48, and Stephen Peet, 60.

Christ is a business executive who has lived in what is now Peachtree Corners' Post 2 for the past 17 years. He has served on the city's Zoning Board of Appeals since the city was founded in 2012.
Peet is a senior operations manager and has lived in Post 2 for the past 27 years.

Qualifying for the seat began Monday and ended at noon on Wednesday.
A special election will be held on May 24 at Peachtree Corners City Hall from 7 a.m.-7 p.m.
Residents who have not registered to vote in the city may do so through April 26 at 5 p.m.
Lowe, who had held the seat since it was created in 2012, is seeking the House seat vacated by state Rep. Tom Rice, who announced in February that, after 20 years in the General Assembly, he would not be seeking re-election.
