$65,000 grant for Children's Restoration Network

What:  The Georgia Compassion Project has donated $65,000 to Children's Restoration Network (CRN), with $55,000 of it to be used for our New Hope Scholarship Program. The New Hope Scholarship Program provides homeless high school seniors living in shelters and group homes a scholarship to attend college or technical school. The remaining $10,000 will be used as follows: $5,000 to help develop curriculum to train volunteers to be paired with homeless high school children that are not yet seniors that have the desire to go to college or technical school upon completion of high school. Additionally the remaining $5,000 will be used to improve CRN's database reports/tracking.

Who: Mr. Tim Vojta, Founder of The Georgia Compassion Project says, "We are pleased to once again renew our partnership with Children's Restoration Network for a second year.  Our findings from the first year partnership have allowed us to expand on the original charter of the New Hope Scholarship program and take the program in exciting new directions.  We have learned that it is not enough to throw money at problems.  We must deploy resources in meaningful, data-driven ways that we know have a greater chance of making a difference. Cliff Kinsey, CEO of Children's Restoration Network says, "We are thrilled to have the support of the Georgia Compassion Project again this year. Since December we have had 3 New Hope Scholarship recipients graduate. Two with a 4 year college degree and one with a Technical School degree. We could not do this impactful work without the support of Foundations like the The Georgia Compassion Project."

The additional funds will be used to create an early intervention program for these resilient young men and women prior to becoming high school seniors will truly help best prepare and educate these up and comers for a successful post high school education.

More Great News:

When we began getting quotes on cost to revamp our current database and improve our reporting methods, we were contacted by someone who had volunteered with CRN through his company's involvement. We have secured an IT expert that is going to do the IT work for free. When Tim Vojta heard about this he offered CRN the $5,000 to be used to upgrade our current computers, printers, etc.

WHY: We know that getting a good education is a major key to shattering the vicious cycle of homelessness. Offering these young men and women a shot at a higher education will truly give them the tools they need to become active and productive citizens. The majority of our New Hope Scholarship winners do not qualify for the State of Georgia's Hope Scholarship. Many of the children that we work with have been abused, neglected, abandoned, and bounced around from school to school and place to place and, prior to finding stability in a shelter or group home, school grades often take a major hit.

The core work of Children's Restoration Network is educationally based. The umbrella for our educational programs is called HeadSmart. It encompasses 3 programs:  our Project One on One weekly tutoring program which pairs caring adults weekly to help mentor/tutor children of all grade levels that are living in shelters/group homes. Our Back 2 School campaign provides new book bags filled with supplies to all children living in a shelter/group homes. Lastly our New Hope Scholarship Program provides tuition and financial help to high school seniors living in a shelter or group home.
