Albers Appointed To Senate Rules Committee

ATLANTA, GA -- Sen. John Albers was recently appointed to serve as ex-officio on the Senate Rules Committee for the 2017 legislative session.

“I am honored that Lt. Governor Cagle appointed me to serve on the Senate Rules Committee,” said Albers, a Republican from Roswell. “I look forward to working with my colleagues to ensure the Senate continues to pass legislation that will improve the lives of all Georgians.”

In addition to serving as ex-officio on the committee, Sen. Albers serves as Chairman of the State and Local Governmental Operations Committee. He is also a member of the Appropriations, Finance and Public Safety committees.

“Sen. Albers has distinguished himself in the Senate and is deeply passionate about serving the people of this great state,” said Lt. Governor Casey Cagle. “His new role will allow him to bring his extensive knowledge to the Rules Committee as he continues to do his part to build a better Georgia.”

Once a piece of legislation is introduced in the Senate, it is assigned to a committee, depending on its topic. If the committee gives the legislation a “do pass” recommendation, then the proposed law is sent to the Rules Committee for consideration.

The Rules Committee has jurisdiction over the rules of the senate and its order of business, including the setting of Senate calendars for consideration of bills and resolutions on the floor of the Senate.
