American Association of University Woman donates to HomeStretch to support homeless families

Working Homeless Families in North Fulton supported by AAUW to Achieve Self-Reliance and Stability

HomeStretch/Housing Initiative of North Fulton was recently presented with a check for $2,500 from the American Association of University Woman (AAUW) North Fulton Branch on Georgia Gives Day. Funding will provide Life Skills Education and Family Contingency Funding to help working homeless families achieve financial, employment, family and housing stability.

AAUW helped HomeStretch exceed a Financial Literacy Well-Being Challenge Goal of $12,000. The support from AAUW and community partners will generate additional funding from SunTrust as part of Georgia Gives Day Challenge Grant. AAUW funding will provide an educator for Life Skills Education class plus Family Contingency Funding for mothers and their children to cover emergency car repairs, transportation and medical and dental costs. The fund permits working homeless families continue to make progress staying on budget, paying down debt and saving without interruption. Implementing financial literacy skills with the support a caseworker, mentors and Life Skills Education helps working homeless families create self-sufficiency and long-term sustainable change in the HomeStretch program.

AAUW’s mission is to advance equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research. Pictured above is Vickie Miller, AAUW Treasurer, Anna Marie Hoffman, President of AAUW N. Fulton Branch, Joan O’Connell, HomeStretch Development Director
