Dunwoody Fencing Club Celebrates Many Successes

Dunwoody Fencing Club, headquartered at 735 West Crossville Road in Roswell is celebrating 10 successful years of training epee fencers from the age of 6 and up. Located in the Pike Nursery Shopping Center, Head coach Kathy Vail and our professional coaching staff is always available for a consultation and to welcome new athletes and parents.

In addition to celebrating 10 great years of developing nationally and internationally ranked fencers, DFC coaches lead the following Georgia High School Fencing League (GHSFL) Championship teams:

Pope High School – 2013 Women’s Team & Men’s Team 1st in State

Alpharetta High School – 2013 Women’s Team 2nd in State

Chattahoochee High School – 2013 Men’s Team 3rd in State

Additionally, the DFC coaching staff trains the epee teams at Milton HS, Cambridge HS, Roswell HS, Dunwoody HS, and Duluth HS.

 

DFC is also home to some of the area’s top GHSFL individual fencers:

Katie Van Riper - GHSFL 2012 and 2013 Individual Women’s Champion. She is also a two-time North American Circuit medalist.

Jake Wachtel - 2013 GHSFL Individual Men’s Silver medalist

Rachel Halper - 2013 GHSFL Individual Women’s Bronze medalist

Kylie McFadden - 2013 GHSFL Individual Women’s Eighth place medalist

Last season, Dunwoody FC had the largest number of USA Fencing Academic All-Americans in the nation. Many of our fencers are expected to be named again this spring. This honor acknowledges academic achievement and dedication to competitive fencing.

DFC has also trained students who have fenced on NCAA teams at St Johns University, UNC-Chapel Hill, Duke University, Brown University, MIT, Columbia and the US Air Force Academy.

 

DFC is also proud to be successfully training the next generation of athletes who have already begun to make a mark on the national scene. Many of our youth fencers have qualified to compete in the USA Fencing National Championships in Columbus OH this June.

Jimmy Wallace - tied for 1st in Y14 men’s epee on USA Fencing's Regional Rolling Points Standings

Alex Nikitin - 6th in Y14 men’s epee on USA Fencing's Regional Rolling Points Standings

Clary Bond - 1st in Y14 women’s epee on USA Fencing's Regional Rolling Points Standings.

In addition to providing excellent guidance to the Atlanta area’s top fencers for the past 10 years, Coach Vail served as USA Fencing’s Regional Coordinator. She is also the new Chair of the USA Fencing’s Scholastic/Collegiate Task Force. Dunwoody Fencing Club is open from 7-9 PM on Mondays and Fridays, 7:30 to 9 PM on Wednesdays, and 10AM -1PM on Saturdays. Stop in any time to meet the staff, the athletes and learn to FENCE!
