Atlanta residents Kesia Quinette Jackson, 44, Deanthony L. Foster, 27, and Makisha Renee Sanders, 42, were arraigned on Thursday before United States Magistrate Judge Janet F. King.
The defendants were indicted April 13 by a federal grand jury on charges of conspiracy to commit armed robbery, armed robbery and use of a firearm during a crime of violence stemming from the incidents, which occurred between May and October of last year.

“Armed robberies are dangerous events that traumatize the victims and sow fears throughout the community, and these effects are magnified when the robbers victimize multiple locations over time,” said U. S. Attorney John Horn. “We hope the arrests and indictments in this case will restore the security felt by the employees and customers of these stores, as well as the surrounding neighborhoods.”
Prosecutors contend the trio targeted the big box retailer and a Citgo Food Mart in different parts of the metro area with the intent of "robbing the employees of cash at gunpoint," Horn's office said in a press release.
Jackson and Sanders allegedly acted as scouts or lookouts before the crimes by entering the stores and posing as customers in order to determine when employees were removing cash from the self-checkout registers.
Sanders and Jackson would then contact fellow defendant Foster, the government argues. The trio used cell phones to keep in contact with each before and during the crimes. Wearing a surgical mask, Foster would then enter the stores and use a firearm to rob the employees.
The FBI, which is leading the investigation, have tied the trio to armed robberies that occurred at the following locations:
- 5/15/2015: 8424 Mall Parkway, Lithonia
- 8/11/2015: 970 Mansell Road, Roswell
- 8/18/2015: 4725 Ashford Dunwoody Road, Dunwoody
- 9/13/2015: 7050 Highway 85, Riverdale
- 9/21/2015: 8424 Mall Parkway, Lithonia
- 9/26/2015: 4975 Jimmy Carter Boulevard, Norcross
- 10/01/2015: 6152 Covington Highway, Lithonia
- 10/7/2015: 2395 Peachtree Parkway, Cumming (during this robbery, the suspect allegedly fired a round into the floor by the cash register)
Assistant United States Attorneys Katherine M. Hoffer and Jessica Morris are prosecuting the case.
