Bear Spotted Near Walmart In Roswell

A Roswell police officer captured the bear on camera running through Green Lawn Cemetery on Mansell Road.

ROSWELL, GA -- An unexpected four, legged furry visitor crashed the Green Lawn Cemetery in Roswell, the police department said Tuesday on its Facebook page.

The agency uploaded a small bear traversing through the cemetery, which is located on Mansell Road near Walmart. Roswell police originally received a report on Monday near the big box retailer, and it subsequently spotted the bear next door on the cemetery's property.

An officer in the area was able to capture the bear running in the cemetery.

"Bears are looking for food and there are some precautions that you can take if you spot a bear," Roswell police said.

What do these precautions entail? According to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Wildlife Resources Division, residents can take simple actions to prevent bears from making an appearance on your property by taking down bird feeders, keeping pet food inside and storing garbage in areas closed off to bears such as a garage.

This comes on the heels of the city of Milton warning its residents of coyotes in the area. According to a May 22 post on its Facebook page, two cats were reported missing and two coyotes were spotted near Cogburn and Francis roads. Additionally, other residents also reported hearing pack noises between Potterstone Glen and Country Ridge.
