Bulloch Hall To Host Annual Living History Wedding

From Bulloch Hall: On December 19, 2017 Bulloch Hall holds its annual living history wedding of Martha “Mittie” Bulloch to Theodore Roosevelt Sr. Guests begin their experience in the gift shop, move to the wedding and living history at Bulloch Hall, and end their evening with dessert and an African- American storyteller. The starting times are 6 p.m., 6:30 p.m., 7 p.m., 7:30 p.m., 8 p.m., and 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children. Reservations are required. At the event, guests tour Bulloch Hall, which is decorated for Christmas. They see bridesmaids and the wedding party preparing for the wedding. Mrs. Bulloch, Mittie’s mother, tells them about her last-minute preparations for the wedding, while in the library men discuss issues of the day. Ladies in the parlor are anticipating the wedding; Mrs. Roosevelt, Theodore’s mother, is there and tells about his childhood. Guests attend the wedding of Mittie and Theodore, which took place on December 22, 1853 in the dining room at Bulloch Hall. Friends and family gather around the couple for the ceremony and music and dancing follow. Finally, guests enjoy wedding cake and ice cream while they listen to an African American storyteller. President Teddy Roosevelt was raised in two worlds, the world of his genteel, vivacious and very southern mother, and the world of his father, a Roosevelt and a businessman from New York. Bulloch Hall was the home of Teddy Roosevelt’s mother, Mittie Bulloch Roosevelt. She lived here from the age of 4 until the age of 18 (1839 until 1853). In 1853 she married Theodore Roosevelt Sr. and moved to New York. The antebellum story of this house is the story of Mittie and her family and it is the story of the founding of Roswell and the way people lived here before the war.
