"The Forest's Gifts" by Award-Winning Author and Educator Mark Warren

Mark returns to High Meadows in celebration of his latest book, A Dance in the Devil’s Rain. He will present a lecture and slide presentation at Meadow Hall on Sept. 14 at 6:00 P.M. This program is open to the public and free to attend.

The Program: The Forest’s Gifts of Food, Medicine and Craft as Practiced by the Native Americans

Mark Warren, owner of the nationally renowned Medicine Bow Wilderness School in Dahlonega, GA, has been teaching about native plants, trees, and Native American survival skills to adults and children for over half a century. 17 of those years having been with High Meadows original founders teaching outdoor programming at school and camp, and introducing weeklong excursions to the mountains.

Mark believes today’s society can — and should — learn some valuable lessons and skills regarding the use of native plants for food, medicine, insect repellent, craft, shelter and fire. Mark will bring along some handmade Native American style crafts for viewing and discussion.

Inspired by his years of working at High Meadows Camp, Mark authored a trilogy called the Camp Itawa Mysteries. We will be celebrating the release of the final book in the series, A Dance in the Devil’s Rain. Book one, A Copperhead Summer, book two, The Last Real Place, and all of Mark’s books will be available for sale and signing at this event. We hope you will join us!
