Candidate Scuttlebutt

Read what some people asked about the candidates what they thought.

Roswell City Council Race Scuttlebutt

The first debate for the Roswell City Council is in the books. The debate seemed to play out on the lines of what the scuttlebutt has been. Shelley Sears and Lori Henry came across with strong positions with Shelley Sears having some slightly better more logical and community based answers. Marie Willsey seemed less of a tiger and was meeker in her demeanor.

Scuttlebutt: Interviewing many people to assess people’s viewpoint on each candidate has resulted in the following statements being said about each candidate:

Shawn Wright: He has done a great duty serving our country. He’s a stay at home dad that his wife told him to get a job. He is a baseball coach and that’s why his sign looks like that. I am not sure what business and leadership he would bring.

Marie Willsey: She has risen to an HOA president, not sure that is sufficient experience for a council seat. She served on the City planning commission and should understand what planning challenges there are, but not sure how she would vote on development issues. Her site says she’s a small business person and has marketing experience.

Lori Henry: She was on council before right? I heard she just wants to run for mayor. Someone told me that she went after the other candidates and caused one to withdraw. I feel she would do and say anything to get elected, but that’s politics, just not my politics. I’d heard she and Mayor Wood are at odds with each other and I don’t think this will help with the dysfunction of the council.

Shelley Sears: Shelley seems to have a great logical approach to development and her experience in real estate would be an asset on the council. I don’t know her well. I heard she knows a lot of people. I like that she hasn’t been in politics before. She seems to stand her ground and be able to bring people together.

Tracy Hanley: I heard she dropped out.

It seems that many people tend to listen to scuttlebutt to make their voting choice and most that vote to go to hear for themselves what the candidates say. The next debate is tonight Feb 28, 2017 from 7-9 PM in the Roswell City Chambers hosted by the Roswell Women’s League. We need to pick the right person to unify our city and make a difference and bring unity to the function of our council.
