Chattahoochee Nature Center Celebrates 40th Anniversary

A series of exciting events for all ages at the nature center have been scheduled to bring the community together throughout 2016!

The Chattahoochee Nature Center is celebrating our 40th Anniversary throughout 2016. We are delighted to roll out our new 40th Anniversary logo, designed by yellobee studio.

A series of exciting events for all ages have been scheduled to bring the community together throughout 2016. Our new mission statement is to connect people with nature and we strive to do that daily. CNC’s unique location midway on the Chattahoochee River allows people who care about protecting, educating and preserving our environment to make a difference for forty years and counting.

We would like to introduce you to our 40th Anniversary Committee Co-Chairs, Diane Barton and Rick Hirsekorn. They are leading a team of volunteers who will serve as our 40th Anniversary Committee. They will soon unveil plans for this yearlong celebration. We invite you to share your own pictures and stories from the past that connect to our history too, on Facebook and Instagram .

Our 2016 scheduled events highlight fun opportunities for people of all ages to rediscover the Chattahoochee Nature Center. Telling the story that has already spanned four decades, it is evident that multiple generations have been part of our evolution. The intertwining of people’s lives through their volunteerism, hard work, and their passion for their environment is well represented in our story. This symbolizes the web that cannot be woven, the web of life.

As the first public-private non-profit nature center in Georgia, we had visionary leaders dedicated to environmental education and conservation. They understood the importance of stewardship for finite natural resources, especially the Chattahoochee River. Our place on the river as the interpretive center, is vital to educating people today and in the future. You too can be involved in this work with your contributions, volunteer time and membership. Help us serve you for the next 40 years.

You can read an article describing those leaders during our first decade (1976-1986) on the cover of our Kingfisher Newsletter and we’ll be featuring our second decade in the next issue.
