Chattahoochee Nature Center Offering Plenty Of January Events
The Chattahoochee Nature Center is hosting a multitude of events this month, including Family Night Hike and Campfire, and CNC Service Day.

ROSWELL, GA — 2020 is a new year, with plenty of fun to be had out in nature. Get fit on more than 2 miles of wooded hiking trails at Chattahoochee Nature Center. Take in the rescued animals of the wildlife walk. Or get the kids active this summer Camp Kingfisher. Find the perfect event for your lifestyle this January.
Family Night Hike and Campfire
Saturday, Jan. 18, 7–9 p.m.
Explore the sounds and sights of the forest. On the hike, keep your eyes and ears open for the calls of owls, and you may even spot some bats swooping down to feed on insects. Your evening also includes an animal encounter and a relaxing campfire, where you can roast a marshmallow. $12 general public/$10 CNC members. All ages.
Environmental Science Merit Badge
Saturday, Jan. 18, 11 a.m.–5 p.m.
While earning this badge, the Certified Merit Badge counselor will give the scouts a taste of what it is like to be an environmental scientist, making observations and carrying out experiments to investigate the natural world. Ages 13+. $45 per scout. Register by January 16.

Camp Kingfisher Member Registration
Monday, Jan. 20, 10 a.m.–4 p.m.
Join the Camp Kingfisher team for the annual registration kick-off with a brand new, super, user-friendly registration system. Secure your camp sessions, cookies, hot chocolate, and free shirts (to the first 100 campers registered). What more could you want? If you have questions about Camp Kingfisher, pop in and we will get all your questions answered.
CNC Service Day
Monday, Jan. 20, 1–4 p.m.
Help us restore CNC’s woodlands and wetlands during this afternoon of service. We will work to remove invasive plants in and around the 127 acres to encourage native plant restoration. Contact CNC to reserve a spot for your family or group. Ages 5+. Registration is required and is open until Jan. 13 or until the event has filled. The Nature Club Dine and Discover: Bats of Georgia with Mark Ray
Thursday, Jan. 23, 7–9 p.m.
Bats are one of the most unique and diverse orders of mammals in the world, and Georgia is blessed with a sampling of sixteen fascinating species. Enter the mysterious world of these amazing animals and survey the biology and ecology of each species. Mark has been fascinated with living things his whole life. As a consulting ecologist, Mark’s vocation matches his avocation. He works primarily with habitat restoration and endangered species management. Ages 16+. $10 general public/$5 CNC members.
Daisy Scout Overnight
Saturday, Jan. 25–Sunday, Jan. 26
This overnight provides opportunities for Daisy Scouts to spend time in the outdoors exploring the Nature Center while participating in CNC’s favorite evening activities. Some of the exciting activities planned for the scouts include night hikes, animal encounters, and roasting marshmallows by the campfire. Contact Mark Gialanella at m.gialanella@chattnaturecenter.org. $45 per participant (scouts and adults). One free adult per every five scouts.
