Chattahoochee Nature Center Offers Music, Moon, More This July

A treat for nature and music-lovers alike, Sundays on the River concert series at the Chattahoochee Nature Center is a unique experience.

ROSWELL, GA — A treat for nature- and music-lovers alike, the Sundays on the River Concert series at the Chattahoochee Nature Center provides a unique listening experience unlike anywhere else. Hosted at the covered Lakeside Pavilion, you can experience the talent and joy of each unique performer as you watch the sunset glitter off the lake and hear the frogs join in the chorus. With an amazing line-up curated by Lee J. Howard entertainment, you won’t want to miss a single show in this summer concert series.

July’s performer is Joe Alterman on July 14.

At only 29-years-old, Joe Alterman has released four critically-acclaimed albums, his most recent being 2017’s "Comin’ Home to You." His unbridled enthusiasm for jazz music is infectious and his skill at the piano is unquestioned. Alterman has opened for the acclaimed jazz composer Ramsey Lewis on multiple occasion and has performed at world-renowned locations like the Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, Birdland and New York’s Blue Note. Now, he is coming to the Chattahoochee Nature Center.

Tickets are on sale now at bit.ly/sundaysontheriver. Online ticket sales close the day prior to each concert, and tickets will be available at the door day of.

Doors open at 6 pm, show starts at 7 pm.

Family Canoe Day
Saturdays, July 6, 20, and 27, 10:30 a.m.– noon
This introduction to canoeing is perfect for first-time paddlers, families with young kids, or adults coming back to the sport. Ages 5+. $20 general public/$15 CNC members. Register by the Thursday before each class.

Date Night on the River
Fridays, July 12 and July 19, 6 p.m.
Relax with us on this adults-only evening paddle. Arrive early, bring a picnic dinner, and enjoy the grounds before you head out on a sunset trip. Ages 21+. $35 general public/$30 CNC members (price per person). Registration required by the Wednesday before each trip.

Breakfast with Butterflies
Sunday, July 14, 10 a.m.–noon
Join us for a family-friendly breakfast in the butterfly encounter and explore the grounds prior to opening. Ages 4+. Register by July 6. $25 general public/$15 CNC members.

Woodland Restoration Project
Sunday, July 21, 1–4 p.m.
Come help us restore the woodlands. Register at least one week prior to the event, however these events have a 25 person maximum and fill up early so please plan accordingly.

Sundays on the River Concert, featuring Joe Alterman
Sunday, July 14, 7–9:30 pm
What better way to wrap up the weekend than an evening under the stars listening to live music with friends? Live music fills the stage on the second Sunday of each month through September. Whether it’s a girls’ night or a date night, nature will provide the perfect backdrop for the evening. July’s performer in local Jazz pianist Joe Alterman. Tickets available online.

Moon Landing 50th Anniversary StarLab
Saturday, July 20, 3 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
Join us for a special StarLab in commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing. Ages 6+ (note that the planetarium is in complete darkness). Included with general admission and free for CNC members.

Well Being in the Woods

Sunday, July 21, 10 a.m.–1 p.m.
Connect with nature in this experiential workshop based on research and practices developed in the area of Shinrin-yoku or “Forest Bathing.” Ages 16+. $30 general public/$15 CNC members. Register by July 14.

The Nature Club: CNC Wildlife Technician, Samantha Kennett
Thursday, July 25, 7–9 p.m.
Learn about the ins and outs of raptor rehab and see a day in the life CNC Wildlife Technician, Samantha Kennett. Ages 16+. $10 general public/$5 members. Speakers begin at 7:30 pm, following our potluck at 7 p.m.

Butterfly Encounter
Open daily through July 31
Get up close and personal with hundreds of native butterflies surrounded by colorful nectar plants. Included with general admission and free to CNC members.

River Canoe Trips
Saturdays and Sundays in June, July, and August, 6 p.m.- 9 p.m.
Bring a date for date night trips, or the whole family for our Family Canoe Days all summer long. Registration required.

Sunset Sips
2nd and 4th Thursdays, June–September, 6:30–9:30 p.m.
Grab a friend, a date, or even the family and head over for live local music and a cash bar. Feel free to bring a picnic dinner. Included with general admission and free to CNC members.

Family Yoga

4th Fridays, June–August, 10 a.m.
Start off your day with a little yoga in nature. Bring your own yoga mat, or borrow a mat from our instruction team. All ages. Included with general admission and free to CNC members.


Artists in the Wild
Tuesdays, June–August, 10 a.m.–1 p.m.
Mingle among the artists while they paint scenes in the fresh air. Included with general admission and free to CNC members.
