Hillside Elementary Administrator Named Principal Of The Year

ROSWELL, GA — Congratulations to Dr. Maisha Otway of Hillside Elementary on being named the Northeast Learning Community (NELC) Principal of the Year! This has been a year of academic success for Hillside and honoring Dr Otway with this award is the icing on the cake.

Hillside kicked off the school year by celebrating #20 which acknowledges that Hillsides’ learners demonstrated significant increases in Georgia Milestones performance with their highest achievements showing 20 percent increases in two content areas. Additionally, Hillside has improved their CCRPI scores by almost 25 points which was the highest 2-digit gain in Fulton County.

Dr. Otway is deserving of the Principal of the Year because “she is dedicated to enriching the lives of her staff and students. She believes in impacting the lives of the students on a daily basis. She also is willing to lend a helping hand with academics and administrative tasks,” said the Kindergarten team. "Dr. Otway knows her students. She knows their names, their stories, their strengths, and their weaknesses. Throughout every day you will see Dr. Otway giving hugs and having conversations with the kids about a recent test score or athletic event. She is connected with the students and it makes a difference.”

Dr. Otway encourages her staff to think big and work hard. Her staff believe Dr. Otway received the Principal of the Year award because "she is not afraid to take risks when it comes to fulfilling innovative ideas. She is a results driven leader that does her best to build a positive work environment and support the culture of our school."
