🌱 Councilman Zapata's Seat On Nov. Ballot + RPD Parade For Local Boy

Here are the top five stories in Roswell today:
- At the Jul. 11 Roswell City Council meeting, Mayor Kurt Wilson plans to announce that Councilman Marcelo Zapata's seat will be on the ballot in November. Zapata has been away from his post all year for medical reasons and his wife told Wilson that he most likely could not finish out his term. The city will hold a celebration for Zapata at the Jul. 25 City Council meeting. (Appen Media)
- On Monday, Jun. 27, the Roswell Police Department drove through Patrick Allegood's neighborhood with lights flashing to celebrate Patrick winning two gold medals at the Special Olympics Georgia 2022 Summer Games. Patrick won in the 100-meter and 200-meter races. (Fox 5 Atlanta)
- The City of Alpharetta is launching an investigation into the ethics of Barry Zimmerman to discover the results of a previous investigation by the Georgia Judicial Qualifications Commission. Zimmerman is the chief judge of Alpharetta Municipal Court and served on the municipal courts of Roswell. He announced on Jun. 9 that he will retire effective Jul. 1 for "personal reasons." If Zimmerman retires on Jul. 1 and does not seek any judicial office in the future, the commission will not bring formal charges against him. Julie Brechbill, City of Roswell spokesperson, said Zimmerman had not worked on Roswell's court in at least 15 years. (Appen Media)
- The Roswell Police Department will receive a "Best in Class" pay plan increase for all sworn officers, approved by the Mayor and City Council. The pay increase includes a 20 percent bump to starting salaries. (Roswell Patch)
