Driver Crashes Into Power Pole in Roswell

The collision cut off power to nearby traffic signals and reversible lane signage along Highway 9 near S.R. 120.

ROSWELL, GA -- A Monday morning accident has forced motorists who rely on a segment of S.R. 9 in downtown Roswell to find alternate routes.

At around 3 a.m. Sept. 12, a driver crashed into a transmission pole on Highway 9 at S.R. 120/Marietta Highway, the city said.

The collision cut off power to nearby traffic signals and reversible lane signage along the highway.

Roswell police spokesperson Lisa Holland said the driver has been charged with failure to maintain lane and "driver to use due care." She also said the accident reports the driver was "distracted by texting."

Police officers and the city’s Department of Transportation have been on the scene since the accident was reported.

While the transmission pole is expected to be reset by noon, power to traffic lights and signs is not expected to be reestablished until mid-afternoon, the city added.

Officers are turning drivers around at Jones Drive and redirecting those motorist to go southbound on Azalea Drive.
