The meet was held May 7 as part of the three-day GHSA Girls Track & Field Championships at Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany. The meet will continue through May 8-9.
Hurley finished the scholastic cross country campaign undefeated. She posted a victory in the Single A private school girls’ race at the GHSA Cross Country Championships held at Carrollton High School on Nov. 8 with a time of 19:06.78, beating the second-place finisher by over 23 seconds.
She became the first athlete representing FCS to capture a state championship in any individual or team sport. Now she is the only athlete in FCS history to win two championships.
She also holds the distinction of being the only person in school history to win state championships in two sports and in sports held during different seasons.
On Friday, May 8, Hurley competed in the 1,600, and freshman Cameron Swartz took part in the long jump. In their respective competitions, Swartz placed fourth in the long jump and set a new personal record and a school record. Hurley placed second in the 1,600.
“Well done by both girls,” Head Coach Tom Harrison said. “It was a tremendous finish to the season for our girls.”
