Final LIVE! In Roswell Concert On June 9

ROSWELL, GA — Minneapolis-based quintet Davina & the Vagabonds will close out the 2017-2018 LIVE! in Roswell season with a rousing concert set for 8 p.m. Saturday, June 9 at the Roswell Cultural Arts Center.

Davina and the Vagabonds’ genre-bending sound is driven by New Orleans horns and the salty vocals of lead singer and pianist Davina Sowers, whose voice has earned her comparisons to Amy Winehouse, Etta James and Bessie Smith. Taking inspiration from the great American Songbook – combined with Davina’s original tunes – the band brings edgy nostalgia to older generations and fresh new music to younger ears.

This quintet features keyboards, acoustic bass, drums, and a spicy trumpet and trombone horn section. Their stellar live shows and energetic stage presence have garnered the band rave reviews at festivals around the world, including Ontario, Romania, Switzerland, Finland, and France, and at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and the Monterey Jazz Festival.

Following their performance at the 2017 Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival in Scotland, the band was named fan favorite artist of the year.

“The band has a grueling touring schedule, and we were fortunate to book them,” said Cultural Arts Coordinator Donna Clayton. “A group of Roswell leaders saw them perform while they were on a tour of Franklin, Tennessee with Roswell Inc. a couple of years ago, and several members of that group returned home and asked ‘how can we get Davina to come to Roswell?’ We were thrilled to be able to make it happen.”
