Flying Colors Butterfly Festival Returns in June

ROSWELL, GA -- If you love to explore the beauty of nature, then the 17th annual Flying Colors Butterfly Festival should be right up your alley.

This year's event, which also celebrates the 40th anniversary of the Chattahoochee Nature Center, will be held from 10 a.m to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 4 and from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 5 at the facility on Willeo Road.

The event will feature live butterfly releases, butterfly garden tours and plant sales, live butterfly encounters, crafts and face painting, a butterfly costume parade, food trucks, live entertainment and butterfly sidewalk art.

The expanded Butterfly Encounter Exhibit allows visitors to the festival to hand-feed more than 250 free flying butterflies. Enjoy the show when masses of butterflies fly free and land on kids and flowers after their release in front of the Ben Brady Lakeside Pavilion.

You will also learn about the ways you can help bring more butterflies to your garden.

Live Butterfly releases times, which are subject to change are set for 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Saturday and 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

Live music will be provided by Ashley Carson and Carribean Steal on Saturday and The Bow Weevils on Sunday. Food trucks include:

• Saturday: Brooke Lynn’s Own Sticks & Cones and Tex’s Tacos
• Sunday: Incrediball Falafel and Hail Caesar Food Trucks
• Cold Treats: Brusters Ice Cream, King of Pops, SnoBayou and Georgia Popcorn Company

The following vendors will also be on hand for the festival: Sandies Label, Lu La Naturals, Indigo Giants, Art Center West, Kites in Flight, Dances with Bees, Ocean Friends, SharingSeaShells, Smith with Flower, Celeste B. Hayes, Michele Gill Jewelry, The Deep Green Shop and Archer Out Back.
