Fulton School Board Adopts 2018 Millage Rate

The school system said its rate of 18.546 mills is the lowest in the metro Atlanta area.

The Fulton County School Board on Wednesday adopted its fiscal year 2018 millage rate during its work session. The rate, a combined 18.546 mills, continues to be the lowest school tax rate in the metro Atlanta area, the system added.

Fulton County millage consists of two combined millage rates – a debt service rate and a maintenance and operations (M&O) rate. The 2018 millage rate approved by the school board provides no increase in the debt service millage rate, which remains at zero. However, a 0.063 mill adjustment – from 18.483 to 18.546 mills – to equal the rollback millage rate was proposed and adopted for the M&O rate, bringing the total millage rate to 18.546.

Due to the Fulton County Board of Commissioners’ decision to freeze the 2016 tax digest on existing residential properties, revenue to the school district based on reassessments generated less revenue than in the previous year. The board’s adoption of the rollback rate will keep this revenue the same as last year.
