During his tenure with Forsyth County Schools, Jones oversaw the accounting, payroll, employee benefits, school food services, workers’ compensation, property and casualty insurance, purchasing, and warehousing functions. In addition, he was instrumental in overseeing seven successful bond referendums and four Special Purpose Local Option Sales tax referendums.
His overall financial oversight helped increase the school system’s bond rating to its current level of Aa1 from Moody’s and AA+ issued by Standards & Poor’s.
Fulton County Schools is known locally and nationally for its fiscal management and for using processes that closely align funding needs with the district’s priorities.
In 2013, the district adopted a new budgeting approach called “modified zero-based budgeting” that requires that the budget be developed from the bottom up and based on demonstrated need rather than just approving incremental increases or decreases.
Jones holds a bachelor’s degree in business with a minor in accounting from Auburn University. He will officially join Fulton County Schools on October 1.
