Get Strong and Focused With Martial Arts, Self-Defense Courses

The city of Roswell offers programs for both adults and children.

Martial arts such as karate and Jui-Jitsu offer an opportunity for both physical and mental strength and stamina.

Residents will soon be able to get strong and focused at one of Roswell’s many martial arts programs, offered by the city’s Recreation, Parks, Historic and Cultural Affairs Department.

Martial Coordination A Great Introduction for Your Littlest One!

A program developed for young children (must be 3 on date of first class) to exercise, learn and and play with martial arts flair to develop perseverance, self-control, courage, and respect through a fun fitness curriculum.

Held at Waller Park Recreation Center, the class will be held 11:30 a.m. to noon on Mondays between March 2 and May 4. The fee $66 is residents and $99 for non-residents. Program #31420-01

Dragons Karate — The First Step — or Kick! — for Kids 4-6!

A great workout for children ages 4-6 that stresses awareness, the ability to focus on the task at hand, and respect for themselves and others. The program will help them develop a sense of independence and confidence in their abilities. The class will be held at Waller Park Recreation Center from 11:15 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays March 3-May 5. The fee is $98 for residents and $147 for non-residents. Program # 31421-01

Family Karate — Do It Together!

Make fitness a family affair by getting everyone 7 and older involved in this class. This traditional Japanese karate program utilizes traditional forms of self-defense, board breaking, self-discipline, and sparring. This class will be held at the Bill Johns Community Activity Building in Roswell Area Park. Dates are Monday/Wednesday, 7-8 p.m., March 16-June 10. Fee is $76/residents and $114/non-residents. Adult Martial Arts — Take this class over your lunch break!

Train in Karate and Jiu-Jitsu to develop balance, coordination, flexibility, agility, strength, breathing and self-defense. Ages 13 and up. Held at Waller Park Recreation Center, this class will run on Mondays from 12:15 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. March 2-May 4. Fee: $120, residents; $180, non-residents. Program #31425-01

Women’s Self-Defense — A mid-day break that will lead to empowerment!

This eight-week workshop focuses on situational awareness, empowerment, and decisive action. Open to women and teens 13 and up. This class will be held at Waller Park Recreation Center on Tuesdays March 3-May 5 from 12:15 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. The fee is $104 for residents and $156 for non-residents. Program # 31426-01
