"Grass-Like" Taste Reported In Roswell's Water
The city said a chemical used to pre-treat the water was behind the change in taste.

ROSWELL, GA -- After complaints that the city's water tasted like certain elements from nature, Roswell is working to restore the familiar, crisp taste its customers have grown accustomed to.
The city said it's received several complaints from customers within the last week about the taste of the basic life necessity.
City spokesperson Carisa Turner said complaints noted the water tasted "a bit earthy or grass-like." It was a change that was also noticed by Water Utility staff members on Saturday.

"To my knowledge, there were no reports about any impact to things like laundry or cooking," she added.
So what's behind the change that's causing customers' taste buds to revolt? Roswell suspects it could be tied to a chemical used during the pre-treatment process of the water supply.

"Since noticing the change in taste, we have stopped using that chemical and expect that change to reduce the taste," Turner stated.
In a statement, Roswell notes the changes will take some time to work, and customers should see noticeable improvements within one to two weeks.
"Please bear with us, and we will keep you posted on our progress," a message on the city's website said. "We should see improvements a day or so before they are noticeable at the customer's faucets. The treated water quality meets the safe drinking water standards set forth by the Georgia Environmental Protection Division. This is a taste and odor issue only and the water is safe for consumption."
