This Georgia Department of Transportation project will be one of the first multi-lane roundabouts on a state route. Its purpose is to relieve congestion and improve safety at the intersection.
The project also includes a multi-use trail on the south side of Hembree Road that will connect with the existing trail at Upper Hembree Road.
Drivers should expect delays during construction, which will necessitate lane shifts to allow the contractor to build the project under traffic. Initial clearing and preparation of the construction space is expected to begin at end of December 2015. The project is estimated to last 24-30 months.
The construction cost for the Houze/Hembree Roundabout is $4.4 million and is funded by GDOT. The city of Roswell contributed $353,500 toward preliminary engineering and design and right-of-way acquisition.
