The school system on Tuesday held the ceremony celebrating the new Atlanta school.

The Esther Jackson school, whose former building was torn down over the summer, is being rebuilt on its original site in Roswell. Esther Jackson’s current students are temporarily attending school in a building on Highway 9/Alpharetta Street. When both schools open in August 2016, they will each house up to 850 students.

During the ceremony, the public is invited to the active construction site to view architectural designs as well as hear from school and construction officials about the school’s features.

Both schools were designed by Collins Cooper Carusi Architects. Cooper & Co. General Contractors is leading the building project at the Derrick Road site while Carroll Daniel Construction is building Esther Jackson Elementary.

Light refreshments will be served following the ceremony. Comfortable shoes with low heels are recommended due to gravel and possibly some muddy areas on the site.
