James Edward Pittman, 86, Former Atlanta Crackers Catcher
Funeral service for the Roswell native will be held Wednesday, Sept. 17, at 1 p.m.

James Edward Pittman, age 86 of Douglasville, passed away, September 14, 2014. He was born November 12, 1927 in Roswell, GA to the late Sylvanus Pittman and Gladys Yancey Pittman. During his career he was a catcher for the original Atlanta Braves, known as the Atlanta Crackers, he was a cabinet maker, barber, owner of Northside Barber Shop of Atlanta, GA and a sheet metal worker, owner with his sons, Pittco Sheet Metal Company of Douglasville. His hobbies were getting up early going to work and working until it was too dark to see, coming home to a home cooked meal and starting all over again the next day. He was of the Church of God faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Katherine Leona Pittman, sister: Judy Peek and son, Michael Timothy Pittman.

Survivors are his children: daughter and son-in-law: Dr. Deborah Carol Couch and husband Darryl, son and daughter-in-law: Steven Wayne Pittman, Sr., and wife, Scharon; brothers and sisters: Betty Jo Rhodes, Jerry Pittman, Eugene Pittman, Peggy Walker, Archie Pittman, Larry Pittman, Charlotte Equivel, Donnie Pittman and Randy Pittman; grandchildren: Tony Lovins, Steven Pittman, Jr., Tammy Pickett, Lauralea Pittman, David Couch, Mitzi Hiers; great grandchildren: Colton Pickett, Brendon Pickett, Bailey Wayne Pittman, Andrew Lee Pittman, Presley Lovins, Clifton Couch, Heath couch, Christy Cook, Michael Barrett, and Zachery Huddleston; great great grandchildren: Tyler Cook, Dustin Cook, Sean Cook, Layla Couch, CJ Couch, Julliette Couch.
Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at 1:00 PMfrom Hightower’s Memorial Chapel with Rev. John Anderson and Rev. James Wright officiating. Glenda Wright will serve as pianist and soloist. Interment will follow in the Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
