Jobless Rate in Roswell Rose in June

The unemployment rate in Roswell inched higher in June, according to data released on Thursday by the Georgia Department of Labor.

The city’s rate stood at 4.6 percent, up one-tenth of a percentage point from 4.5 percent in May. Roswell’s rate in June 2014 was 5.5 percent.

Rates for surrounding cities that have a total population of 25,000 or more include: Alpharetta at 4.8 percent; Brookhaven at 2.8 percent; Duluth at 5.6 percent; Dunwoody at 4.6 percent; Johns Creek at 4.9 percent; Marietta at 5.7 percent; Milton at 4.9 percent; Peachtree Corners at 5.3 percent; Sandy Springs at 4.9 percent; and Woodstock at 5.6 percent.

The labor department said metro Atlanta’s rate was up one-tenth of a point in June -- 6.0 percent, up from 5.9 in May, but considerably less than 7.3, the rate for June 2014.

The rate rose as the number of jobs declined and new layoffs, as measured by unemployment insurance claims, increased, the labor department said.

Metro Gainesville had the lowest area jobless rate at 5.3 percent. The Heart of Georgia-Altamaha region had the highest at 8.2.

Georgia’s seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate for June was 6.1 percent, down from 6.3 in May. It was 7.3 percent in June 2014.
