Judy Mozen Advocates For More Women In Residential Construction

The Roswell resident recently participated in a national panel discussing how to recruit and train women in home construction.

Judy Mozen, president of Roswell-based Handcrafted Homes, Inc. and former Board Chair for the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI), recently participated in the opening panel discussion of the 2018 Women in Residential Construction’s Annual Conference.

Mozen, a pioneering woman in the homebuilding and remodeling industries, spoke about "Bringing Women into the Trades." She was joined on the panel by Judy Dinelle, National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Women in Building chair, Amy James Neel, training director of Oregon Tradeswomen, Inc., and Rachel White, project manager and performance manager of Byggmeister Design Build. The panel was moderated by Erika Taylor, director of content for Professional Remodeler magazine.

Mozen, who has held a number of leadership positions at the local, regional and national NARI organizations, has long been an advocate of recruiting women and minorities into the home building and remodeling industries. She has mentored countless professional women and is a sought-after speaker on women in business, leadership and the remodeling industry.

“When I began my business about 40 years ago, I was one of only a few women in construction, and, in general, we were not always welcome,” says Mozen. “Today, the industry is facing a severe skilled labor shortage, due in part to so many workers leaving the industry during the recession. We need women to join our field! While I served as NARI President, I traveled the country, speaking about the wonderful opportunities available to a diverse population including women, people of color and young people in construction and remodeling. I’ve also been working with NARI’s national office and individual local chapters to increase the diversity of our workforce.”
