Lady Paladins Soccer Team Advances to State Title Game

Fellowship Christian Schools' varsity soccer team defeated First Presbyterian Day School May 12 in the Class A semifinals.

Sophomore Rachel Haigwood capped an exciting evening for the Fellowship Christian School girls’ varsity soccer team with the game-winning tally in the sixth round of penalty kicks.

Her score followed by a save on FPD’s final kick lifted the Lady Paladins to a 3-2 victory over host First Presbyterian Day School of Macon in the semifinals of the GHSA Class A Girls State Soccer Tournament on May 12. FCS outscored FPD 6-5 in penalty kicks following two scoreless overtime periods. The game was tied 2-2 after regulation.

The Fellowship seniors have now reached their third championship game. It’s the third trip to finals in school history.

With the victory, Fellowship advances to the state title game against Hebron Christian Academy of Dacula at Mercer University in Macon. It is the school’s fifth consecutive trip to the state Final Four this year, and sixth overall. The school advanced to the State Final Four for the first time in 2005, and has gone every year since 2011.

The Lady Paladins have extended their unbeaten streak to 18 games (16-0-2 overall), including a 3-0 record in the state tournament.

The boys’ and girls’ varsity teams have posted a combined 34-2-3 record this season. Both the boys’ and girls’ clubs were ranked second in the eurosportscoreboard rankings released on April 26.
