Jake Williamson kicked two field goals and Shane Young added a third-quarter touchdown run, but it wasn’t enough for the Fellowship Christian School varsity football team.

Williamson, who was 2-for-3 in field-goal attempts, kicked a 24-yarder with 5:40 left in the fourth quarter to give FCS a 13-10 lead over Whitefield Academy in Mableton on the road on Oct. 17. But the WolfPack rallied for the game-winning TD late in the game. The Paladins final drive ended on a desperation pass as time ran out.

The road loss snapped the Fellowship two-game win streak and ended the team’s hopes of climbing above .500 for the second time this season. The Paladins fell to 2-2 in Region games and are now 3-4 overall.

It was just the second road game for the season for FCS, which won 44-17 at AA Armurchee High School on Aug. 22 in their season-opener.

Young, the Paladins senior quarterback, scored on an eight-yard TD run in the third quarter for FCS. Senior Cole Myszka’s extra-point gave FCS a 10-3 lead in the third quarter. On their next drive, the WolfPack tied the game with a TD and extra-point kick.

The team’s traded field goals in the first quarter. Williamson booted a career-best 50-yard field to give FCS a 3-0 lead on the last play of the first quarter. That scoring drive was set up by Jackson Pryor’s fumble recovery.

Whitefield tied the game with a field goal of its own later in the second quarter. The half ended in a 3-3 tie.

Fellowship was driving for a score before Young’s pass was intercepted at the 2-yard-line late in the second. Jack Hardin made an interception to set up that long drive.

FCS collected 140 yards on 37 rushing attempts. Young led the club with 76 yards on 16 attempts. Junior Tyler Matthesen, who has six TDs in the last three games, gained 38 yards on nine carries.

Young completed 23 passes for 55 yards. Jake Williamson grabbed five passes for a team-high 33 yards. Junior Bo Wynn had three catches for 16 yards.

On the defensive side of the ball, senior Deklan Reid registered nine assisted tackles and 11 total stops to lead the club. Hardin was next with nine tackles, including seven assisted stops. Reid and junior Reed Kroeber each recorded a sack.

The Paladins will host Pinecrest Academy on Senior Night on Oct. 24 at Bob Lord Field at 7:30 p.m.
