Man Charged With Aggravated Assault After Roswell Car Shooting

The Roswell Police Department has charged a man with aggravated assault for his connection with a June 4 traffic shooting.

ROSWELL, GA — The Roswell Police Department has charged a man with aggravated assault for his connection with traffic shooting last month.

Gaelen Newsom, 22, was charged with aggravated assault, and has remained in custody at the Fulton County Jail since June 6 on other charges for separate offenses committed in the City of Atlanta.

Shortly before 9:30 a.m. on June 4, officers responded to a report of gunshots near the intersection of Old Roswell Road and Holcomb Bridge Road. Officers found a van damage from gunfire and stopped in the southbound lanes of Old Roswell Road. The driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was not hit.

An initial investigation showed a gray sedan pulled up along the right side of the victim’s vehicle, and fired at least one round from a handgun into the vehicle. The accused, now known as Newsom, then drove westbound on Holcomb Bridge Road.

There was no reported exchange of words or aggressive driving behavior leading up to the shooting.

The Roswell Police Department coordinated with the Atlanta Police Department and the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office.
