Atlanta’s Mexican Consul General Ricardo Camara Sanchez, 63, was pulled over by police last week while traveling along S.R. 140/Holcomb Bridge Road at Old Alabama Road.

The vehicle ”then made an abrupt right turn onto GA-400 northbound and was traveling below the minimum speed limit.”

The officer initiated a traffic stop and observed several behaviors consistent with an intoxicated motorist, the report states.

A field sobriety test was conducted, and the officer determined Sanchez, had been driving under the influence “to the extent that he was less safe driver.”

Due to his status, the United States Department of State was contacted and the officer was informed that Sanchez “was immune from custodial arrest,” the report states.

Instead, Sanchez was cited and allowed to leave the location in a taxi, the report states.

The Mexican Embassy said in a statement that it’s aware of the “alleged traffic infraction” committed by Sanchez.

“We trust that the investigation will be carried out in strict accordance with the applicable local and international guidelines,” the Embassy said. “We remain attentive to the development and results of said investigation.”
