The work will affect both westbound and eastbound Holcomb Bridge Road, the city said. Here’s a breakdown of the work that will be done on the thoroughfare:
- Milling, which is the grinding and removal of old road surface, will start during daylight hours on Wednesday, March 2.
- Paving and restriping will start Friday, March 4, and continue throughTuesday, March 8, weather permitting.
Delays should be expected, and drivers are encouraged to consider alternate routes for the duration of the work.

The contractor will perform work during both daylight hours -- 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. -- and at night. The paving process is temperature-dependent; colder temperatures make it difficult to work with asphalt, so paving will be performed when conditions are ideal (day or night).
Milling, which is not temperature-dependent, may take place day or night.
During paving projects, vehicle-detection sensors — which control the automatic timing of traffic lights based on traffic volume — must be removed. As a result, traffic-signal timing may be affected for the duration of the project. The vehicle-detection system will be re-established as soon as the project is complete.
Once the paving is complete, drivers will be able to use the new westbound travel lane along Holcomb Bridge Road between Old Alabama Road and the S.R. 400 northbound on-ramp.
In addition, on Market Boulevard at Holcomb Bridge Road, an additional left turn-lane will be available, and Old Alabama northbound at Holcomb Bridge Road will have second through-lane.
This milling and paving project is one of many improvement projects at the HBR/GA-400 interchange. Please note that this is an active construction zone. All major improvement projects at the HBR/GA-400 interchange are anticipated to be finished by April 2016.
