New Fulton School Board Member Takes Office

Kimberly Dove represents District 6, which includes parts of East Point, College Park, City of South Fulton and Union City.

A new face has formally joined the Fulton County School Board, replacing a long-time member who had to step down due to health concerns.

Kimberly Dove was sworn into office Thursday by Superior Court Judge Patsy Porter and begins her commitment to fill the unexpired term today. She replaces Catherine Maddox, who resigned in May.

“I am excited to partner with the Board and District 6 community with one common goal – to educate our children and expect the best,” said Dove.

District 6 includes parts of East Point, College Park, South Fulton and Union City.

A parent of three children, one of whom is a Fulton County Schools class of 2015 graduate, Dove has held various leadership roles as a school volunteer. She has served as the president, vice president, and parliamentarian of the PTSA at Westlake High School and as co-chair for Westlake’s School Governance Council.

Also, she has been a member of the Superintendent’s Parent Advisory Council and has held roles as PTA member and volunteer at Renaissance Elementary School, Camp Creek Middle School and SandtownMiddle School. In addition, Dove is a past recipient of Westlake High School’s Volunteer of the Year Award.

“Ms. Dove is undeniably an advocate for education, and over the years she has shown her dedication through many leadership roles as a school volunteer, PTSA officer, School Governance Council co-chair, Superintendent’s Advisory Council member,” said School Board President Linda Bryant. “We enthusiastically welcome her to the Fulton County Board of Education and look forward to the perspectives she will bring.”

Dove has a long history of service to the community with her previous commitments as board member of Protecting Our Schools and Community (POSC) and as a member of the education committee for The People’s Campaign. She is a long-time resident of South Fulton and currently resides in the newly formed City of South Fulton.

A technology enthusiast, Dove has worked in the tech industry specializing in mergers and acquisitions with systems integrations, network infrastructure, and analyzing corporate applications across multiple business units since 1998. She holds a bachelor’s of science degree in information technology.

Following Maddox’s announcement to retire, the school board invited potential replacement candidates to submit letters of interest with a resume. From these, the board selected Dove as its finalist to complete the remaining months of Maddox’s term, which ends Dec. 31, 2018.
