“The Christmas trees are a welcomed gift to our families who are excited to celebrate the holiday traditions with their children, but might have limited resources to invest in a tree and ornaments,” said Donna Smythe, executive director of the Child Development Association. ”Alex and the Christmas Tree Santas are truly bringing the holiday spirit to our community.”

Christmas Tree Santas was founded in 2010 by Alex Gramling who gave away an artificial tree that his family no longer needed to a struggling family. Gramling was so moved by the recipients’ appreciation that he and a group of friends launched the organization in 2011 and gave away more than 300 trees.

This year the organization has plans of distributing 750 fresh-cut trees with stands and ornaments to families in Massachusetts, Georgia, North Carolina and New Jersey.

All recipients are referred by partnering social service agencies that serve low-income families.
