Pickleball Comes To Roswell’s River Mill Community
Roswell's River Mill Condominiums has added pickleball as a new complex amenity.
Roswell’s River Mill Condominium Association, Inc. at 200 South Atlanta Street has joined the pickleball craze. As part of the recent renovations of the complex’s two tennis courts, Courts Makers Inc. (courtmakers.com) – the vendor contracted to perform the renovations – made the suggestion to add the pickleball element to the pre-existing courts.
The decision was a no-brainer as the only added expense was the cost of painting the separate lines that correspond with the sport and the purchase of paddles and balls.
“We’re constantly looking to add amenities for our homeowners that’s cost feasible,” said Jeffrey Shillington, River Mill Condominium Association president. “The addition of pickleball has proven to be an exciting game for all ages that has sparked more community engagement.”

According to NBC News, pickleball is the fastest-growing sport in America. Invented in Seattle in 1965, pickleball is a fun sport that combines many elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong. The sport can be played by all ages and skill levels. The rules are simple and the game is easy for beginners to learn, but can develop into a quick, fast-paced, competitive game for experienced players. The game is played with a paddle and a plastic ball with holes (Wiffle ball) and can be played in a singles or doubles format.
To encourage residents to give it a try, River Mill’s condo association purchased a dozen paddles and balls for community use and hosted a pickleball demonstration night to unveil the newly renovated courts. In the fall, the association plans to start “Pickleball Pickup Nights” to provide individuals looking for a partner the opportunity to play regulation games.
