Police Warn of Counterfeit $100 Bills
Alpharetta police say the fake currency has shown up at local fast food restaurants.
ALPHARETTA, GA -- Police in Roswell and Alpharetta are warning businesses that a counterfeit $100 note could go undetected in their transactions with customers.
That's according to the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety's Facebook page, which said it and the Roswell Police Department have been made aware of a "few incidents in the past two weeks" in which one or two men have been passing these fake $100 notes.
Locations that have been affected, according to the agency, are fast food eateries such as Pizza Hut, Jimmy Johns and Moe's Southwest Grill.

The suspects typically order about $10 to $15 worth of food, pay for their purchase using a $100 bill and take the change.
"Several employees have stated they checked the note with a detection pen and it showed it as being legitimate," Alpharetta police state.

A legitimate bill will have a magnetic strip embedded with the currency's denomination printed on it. Any employee who encounters a counterfeit bill is asked to contact local authorities.
"Do not depend solely on pen detection," Alpharetta police said.
