A Facebook Marketplace Purchase Turned Into An Armed Robbery In Roswell: Police

ROSWELL, GA — Roswell police warn residents about Facebook Marketplace sales after an armed robbery.

The warning comes after they arrested a juvenile man Feb. 28 and charged him with armed robbery in connection to a scam sale. Police said the victim listed his iPhone for sale on Facebook Marketplace and agreed to meet the potential buyer in the parking lot of a Roswell apartment complex. The so-called buyer took the phone, pointed a gun and ran off, police said.

While the victim was reporting the robbery to police,his friend saw the stolen cell phone listed again on Facebook Marketplace. That’s when police met up with the suspect, pretending to be an interested buyer.

The juvenile suspect, whose identity has not been released, is now in custody, police said.

“We want to remind our community about using our front parking lot as a safe zone for conducting these types of online sale transactions,” police said. “Our cameras are recording 24/7, and someone who turns down an offer to meet at the police department just might be someone you don’t want to do business with.”
