This Georgia Department of Transportation project will be one of the first multi-lane roundabouts on a state route. The primary purpose of the Houze/Hembree roundabout is to relieve congestion and improve safety at the intersection.
The project also includes a multi-use trail on the south side of Hembree Road that will connect with the existing trail at Upper Hembree Road.
Drivers should expect delays during construction, which will necessitate lane shifts to allow the contractor to build the project under traffic. Initial clearing and preparation of the construction space started in December 2015, and the project is estimated to last 24-30 months.
The construction cost for the project is $4.4 million and is funded by GDOT. Roswell contributed $353,500 toward preliminary engineering and design and right-of-way acquisition.
