🌱 RDP Applies For Federal Grant + Local Accused Of Murder Update

First, today's weather:

Here are the top five stories today in Roswell:

  1. The Roswell City Council is allowing the Roswell Police Department to apply for a $49,654 Federal Bureau of Justice assistance grant. The grant, if awarded to Roswell, will be used to purchase a DNA sampling SEC field unit and supplies to process 75 DNA samples. (The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
  2. Fabien Malik Perry, the man accused of killing his girlfriend Johana Samantha "Samy" Cabrales-Hernandez, had a history of physically abusing her, according to Roswell police records. Roswell police are still trying to find Perry and take him into custody. (11 Alive)
  3. Eviction day is approaching for an income-based apartment complex at 199 Grove Way, and most of its elderly and/or disabled residents have nowhere else to go. Owned by the Roswell Housing Authority and managed by the Gainesville Housing Authority, the complex issued a notice to residents in March 2022 stating that the property had been condemned because of structural issues and they needed to leave by August.   4. The Chattahoochee Nature Center's butterfly encounter event is running until Aug. 7. This unique event is held in partnership with Northside Hospital. Plan your visit to the Nature Center, located at 9135 Willeo Road in Roswell. (The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
  5. Roswell firefighters are shifting to a full-time fire department to better serve the community. Fire Chief Joe Pennino said the 5-year transition plan will cost taxpayers $5.3 million to fund the full-time salaries. (CBS 46 News)
