The Roswell Police Department continue to look for the two men who allegedly assaulted one of their officers Wednesday morning.

Around 10:40 a.m., John Lathem was patrolling the Champions Green Apartments, which sit off Holcomb Bridge Road, when he “noticed two suspicious males” near the 600 building on Belmont Drive, said Roswell police spokesperson Lisa Holland.

Lathem got out of his patrol vehicle and attempted to speak to the men when the fight started. Holland said the officer was attacked and was cut by a knife on his face and forearm.

“Lathem was able to fire his weapon and both men fled on foot,” she added.

Officers established a perimeter around the complex, and officers from Alpharetta and Johns Creek brought along their K-9s to assist in the search. Additionally, officers from both Milton and Dunwoody police departments also participated in the search efforts.

“We have exhausted all leads in the search of the area, but the investigation still continues,” Holland said.

The suspects are described as black men who were wearing black-hooded sweat shirts. One suspect had a question mark graphic on the front of his sweat shirt while the other is described as a heavy-set man with dreadlocks.

Lathem, a 15 year veteran with Roswell police, received numerous stitches on his face and forearm, Holland said.

“He is doing well and will make a full recovery,” she added.
